Our Commitment to Sustainability

At Heidi Merrick, we are committed to sustainability and responsible manufacturing practices. We believe that fashion can and should be sustainable, and we are proud to create high quality, ethically made garments that you can feel good about wearing.

As a small fashion brand, we understand the importance of reducing our environmental impact and supporting local communities. That's why we prioritize sustainable materials and ethical manufacturing, and make every effort to source from local and domestic suppliers whenever possible.

From eco friendly fabrics and natural fibers to our commitment to fair labor practices, we are dedicated to creating clothing that is not only sustainable but also ethical. Thank you for joining us on this journey toward a more sustainable future.

Sustainable Garment Care: Wear More, Wash Less

Handling and caring for your Heidi Merrick pieces gently helps them last longer, conserves natural resources, and keeps textile waste out of landfills. Extending the life of your luxury wardrobe is a cornerstone of sustainable fashion and intentional living.

Hand washing or spot treating with cold water is the most effective way to wash luxury clothes while protecting the environment and your garment's longevity. This is especially vital for swimwear, which should be rinsed with cold water after every wear and laid flat in the shade to dry. Using cold water reduces color fading and significantly lowers the energy consumption associated with home laundry.

To maintain the integrity of the fabric and the garment's original silhouette, we recommend you hang dry whenever possible and avoid machine drying. Air drying keeps fibers strong and preserves the delicate construction of your pieces while saving electricity.

Dry clean selectively and only when a piece is labeled as dry clean only. If the construction or fabric cannot withstand a traditional wash, wait until professional cleaning is truly necessary. We suggest seeking out an environmentally conscious cleaner who avoids harmful chemicals like perchloroethylene (perc) and requesting that they skip the plastic garment bag to reduce single-use waste.

Utilizing a steamer instead of an iron will preserve the natural flow and texture of the piece. For minor wrinkles, you can hang your garment in the bathroom while you shower as the ambient steam naturally smooths out the fabric without the risk of high-heat damage.

Professional tailoring ensures your pieces fit perfectly, as a small adjustment can make a favorite item last a lifetime. We also encourage repairing minor damage at home to extend the life of your clothing. You can fix broken straps or pulls in knits by carefully pulling the loose thread to the next stitch with a dull needle while gently stretching the garment. If you need guidance on a specific repair, email a photo to info@heidimerrick.com for our recommendations.

When a piece no longer inspires you, consider repurposing the design by shortening a full-length dress or dyeing a garment a fresh hue. If you are ready to part with a piece, we recommend reselling through a local luxury consignment shop or organizing a clothing swap with friends. For those choosing to donate, please be intentional; ensuring your garment is in excellent condition helps it find a new home rather than ending up in a landfill.
