Garance Doré, the author, illustrator, and founder of the skincare line Doré, met Scottish actor Graham McTavish, best known for his roles in Outlander and The Hobbit, on Raya. “I managed to slip through her algorithm as she had forgotten to exclude men who resembled grumpy, bearded grandfathers!” Graham jokes. “I also pretended that I lived in LA when I was only visiting because I didn’t want to put her off. ”
“Even though we would have liked to have met by chance, this probably would never have happened in real life, as we were almost always in different parts of the world,” Garance admits.
The two got engaged in Edinburgh, Scotland, on 23 August 2022, after dating for a year and a half. The proposal was simple and intimate – but Garance knew it was coming ahead of time, as they had jokingly started talking about their wedding rather early in their relationship. “I couldn’t wait to get engaged,” Graham says. “I’m amazed I waited as long as I did before asking her!”
The dress, made by my best friend Heidi Merrick just for me. I’d always wanted something very minimal, but she wanted to bring solemnity to the moment and added a small lace train – which I’ll never thank her enough for. This miraculous pair of Zara booties found me after I’d spent weeks scouring the internet for… exactly this.
The dress, by Heidi Merrick. She was able to make it fit like a glove even though we made all of it remotely, as I was in London and she was in LA. It took a bit of a miracle – and a lot of talent!
